Privilege Tax (OPT) Information
West Reading Borough & Wyomissing School District levy
a $52.00 OPT per year for each employee, now called the Emergency and Municipal
Service Tax. Since Chris TALARICO & Associates, Inc.
is located in West Reading, our employees are subject to this tax regardless of
where they live or where we send you to work.
The OPT will be deducted from your first paycheck
automatically unless you complete the proper documentation and provide CTA, Inc.
with a receipt of payment through another employer.
I have paid the tax
and I have my receipt.
If you have already paid the OPT and you have your receipt,
please complete the Form EE (see below) and return the form to us along
with a copy of your receipt. You may stop by our office and we will make the
copy for you if you like.
I have paid
the tax but I never received a receipt.
If you have already paid the OPT and you DO NOT have your
receipt, please call the employer who deducted the tax from your paycheck and
ask them for the receipt. We
are not permitted to accept a copy of the paycheck stub or a letter from a
former or current employer as proof of payment.
What if I
can’t get or can’t find my receipt?
If you cannot get or have lost your receipt, we will have
to deduct the tax from your paycheck and remit it to the taxing authority. If
you get or find your receipt later, you can contact the taxing authority
directly and they will issue you a refund. Once we
send the payment to the taxing authority we can no longer refund you directly.
How long do
you wait before sending the payment to the taxing authority?
We send payments to the taxing authority at the end of each
quarter. We send OPT receipts to you as soon as we receive them from the taxing
authority which is usually the first week of each quarter for the previous
quarter.
